About Ar.Vasant Dora

I am a self taught artist. I have also traveled extensively and visits to galleries and museums have been important in my travel itinerary. My works are largely oil on canvas. I extensively use the palette knife and at times mix of palette knife and brush for blending, layering and make definitive strokes. Frankly , it does not bother me as to how paint is applied to canvas , as long as there is a story to tell. It is a pleasure to present and share a collection of my art works in this volume. Hopefully different people will react and infer different meaning and interpretation. But then art was never intended to have a single meaning or narrative.

Art frees the mind of visual restrictions. Art to me is an expression of a perception that explores the tangible to extract the infinite out of the finite. Having its roots in intuition and what I observe through my mind’s eye . Art is a journey which can often be an amalgamation of multiple experiences in visual harmony or even in splendid conflict. The thrill resides in emancipation of the mind to explore in unknown areas. Often has it been spoken that every abstraction has its genesis in something real. What if the very beginning is itself an abstract fountainhead. Often for me therein lies the challenge that provokes my imagination, pushing me to paint different emotions, instincts, impulses that germinate of a metaphysical or an incorporeal idea and perception. It is here that 1 rely on symbolism, the colors, shapes and the very connect to the ephemeral and primeval abstraction to express myself. This comes about from considerable research and reading that I often indulge in. The “process” that leads to the “product” is important to me in my artistic endeavor and journey.
