The thesis by Saumya Jain is a reflection of her interest in the field of fashion and a design solution in an artistic manner. This thesis is one of the best examples of realistic solution for a Hub of Creativity, ie. Fashion Hub in a hussle bussle, Maidan Garhi in New Delhi.

Summary:

Fashion Hub as the name suggests, where fashion speaks a different language, it makes an identity for itself, bringing out various fashion houses, designers making room for the other international brands giving way to gallery spaces, hosting fashion shows and related events. They include hosting market meets, fashion shows during all the seasons, offer a wide variety of designer wear products from the Indian fashion manufacturing industry through a permanent exhibition, provide facilities of design, research on products and manufacturers, fashion photo shoots, etc. produce publicity material, literature on a wide range of fashion business related issues. The project helps the whole fashion industry to get under one roof. It integrate the designers, business experts, students, weavers, etc to unite and get coordinated to ensure best quality in outputs and helps to blend the ancient India textile industry and the most modern techniques and styles and therefore achieve a strong and beneficial market .

The project is an attempt to make people aware about the Indian fashion and the process, and produce respect for the same. And to make India emerge as a major hub for international fashion event. The selected site is proposed by Delhi Development Authority and the site is located in Maidan Garhi, South-Delhi measuring 11 acres. For quite some time now, Delhi is known for its fashion and modern culture, vibrant art vibe, so it is derived as India’s fashion capital because of the presence of almost all fashion and brands and designers in the city. Nowadays, Fashion becomes a communication medium between people, and it’s very common in city like Delhi.

The case studies has been done in bits and parts to understand the activities of the different aspects of the fashion. Fine Art to Natural World – Fashion gets inspiration from all sources. Architecture produces inhabitable art while fashion gives us wearable art. Designers who dip their toe into the world of architectural fashion, use building blocks to form the garment. In the same manner that architects use concrete, glass, bricks etc to construct the building and designers make high end fashion dresses. Fashion Industry giants like Gianfranco Ferré and the late Pierre Balmain have an architectural background. Balmain has even said “dressmaking is the architecture of movement” Design concept has been derived from the principles of Fashion and merging those principles with Architecture i.e. “FASHION FOLLOWS ARCHITECTURE “. The fashion principle and technique called pleats is used in the façade treatment. Pleats are the angular fins .these vertical pleats is used in the exterior with merging with glass, as glass is the best medium for virtual merchandising. This combination of pleats and glass gives the whole building A Pleated Skirt formation. The vertical fins acts as a climatic shading device which is used as per climatic analysis. They are oriented toward the direction of the sun, which helps in reducing internal glare and solar heat. Each panel is clipped to the facade system with formed stainless-steel angles and pop rivets The slanted and vertical fins helps to provide diffused sunlight inside the interiors and helps in reducing heat inside the building. The slanted fins cut the heat entering the building and act as a wind breaker. As commonly we accessorize the outlook of human body the whole building is accessorized by saving energy .The Façade will be striking example of energy efficiency, storing energy during the day and will illuminate at the night. The photovoltaic glass is used in the exterior facade that will help in reducing heat gain inside the building and it will store the heat and illuminate in the form of light as a colour changing glass. The site planning revolves on collecting all the fashion activities at a single place being The Fashion Theatre and the business block with a big water body with large oat placed at centre. This oat is connected with sunken courts at the centre. The major goal while designing is to merge the fashion and architecture functionally and aesthetically, by creating interesting spaces inside the building used for fashion activities like fashion hat. It is a fashion gali (Street) which will reflect the typical Delhi shopping street. A water body with ramp element where the people will sit and watch the fashion events The fashion Theatre includes runway halls which invites all the designers to host their fashion shows to showcase their designs, exhibition areas and galleries to represent their work, business centres to incorporate the business facilities for mutual benefits between fashion designers and the clients at big level. It also includes a large Fashion museum which allows people to reinvent the history of fashion, by visualizing the styles of each and every era from 1920’s to modern fashion. The Business centre is the house for the Fashion designers which includes the designer studios and their boutiques .The Fashion hub helps in creating friendly environment for all the fashion community people to work under one roof, providing platforms for the young designers to learn and explore and hence enhancing the fashion market of the country.
