Inspired by the iconography, allegories& symbolism of India’s Royal History, Orvi Surfaces presents bespoke products on the theme ‘Modern Maharaja’.
Orvi’s approach of constant research & development to explore new ideas, new materials & techniques, combined with its unique craftsmanship in intricate inlay work and the ability to integrate a wide range of materials, allowed the designers to re-tell the stories of Royal India through motifs, symbols, insignia and one-of-a-kind products. This grand line-up of bespoke design products and installations will be showcased at D/Code Design Biennale, an annual on-ground event scheduled to take place virtually this year as a digital representation. Synonymous with impeccable craftsmanship and technology, Orvi is known for creating best-in-class surfaces using traditional craft techniques from across the globe. Together with more than 60 in-house artisans, Orvihas used varied traditional craft techniques from across the world including stone carving, hand sculpting, intricate metal inlay, stone –in-stone inlay, raku firing etc., to create these bespoke products using exquisite materials like natural stone, wood, metal, liquid metal, ceramics and glass.

Seeped in history & re-imagined with a modern design twist, Orvi Surfaces x Ar. Iram Sultan present a Nosh Daan handmade using Bronze Metal utilizing the traditional Chitai Technique. This piece of art holds within itself plates and bowls crafted using the ancient Japanese art -Raku Firing Technique.

Taking inspiration from the portraits and paintings that adorn the royal palaces of Maharajas, Orvi Surfaces x Ar. Neesha Alwani& Ar. Shruti Jalan, create The Wall of Frames. A collage of frames, formed in a geometrical pattern has been created using a combination of relief work in marble and inlay work using marble, semi-precious stones and metal, creaing an interesting surface option for the floor and walls .

Orvi’s Installation named ‘Nizara’ with Pavitra Rajaram Designs (PRD),by Ar. Pavitra Rajaram is inspired by a traditional Mughal baradari, sprawled amid the lush greens of a cypress garden. Ar. Pavitra Rajaram says, “In collaboration with Orvi Surfaces, we achieved the interplay of the colours, textures and materials in Nizarais, which are inspired by the way in which Indian craftsmen used their mastery over their art form to create a confluence of materials.
